On the 5 of March Ajax put 4 goals past Real Madrid to secure their place in the quarter finals of the champions league, stunning everyone at the Bernabeu. At the same time, Tottenham Hotspur cemented their place in the last 8 with a comfortable win away at Borussia Dortmund.

In the terms of Scottish football, Celtic are eight points clear at the top of the table with 10 games remaining, however they have tough fixtures left against Aberdeen and Rangers who’ll be looking to close the gap as quick as possible.

There’s also a big weekend in rugby, with Wales coming to Murrayfield, with the Welsh hoping to keep their place at the top of the Six Nations table. Italy will look to upset England at Twickenham, whilst France travel to Ireland for what is sure to be a thrilling weekend in rugby for all supporters.

Now to local sport, and Hawick boxing club’s Marcus Brogan journeyed to Ravenscraig to fight in the Open Schoolboy title however the judges harshly denied him the title in Ravenscraig.

On the 1stof march the annual Teviotdale Harriers cross-country championship took place. Irvine Welsh took the title with Robbie welsh and Rhys Elliot completing the podium. In the Girls Race 1stwas Ava Hughes, 2ndwas Chelsey Atkins and 3rd Lexie Keown.

Hawick United bounced back from two goals down to score 4 against Jed Legion at the weekend, making it into the semi-finals of the Beveridge Cup where they will now face their rivals from down the River Teviot, Hawick Waverly.
