Pupils take part in ‘Drivewise’ event

Fifteen S5 pupils from HHS joined other pupils from across the Borders at the ‘Drivewise’ event earlier this week at the former RAF airfield at Charterhall.

Working with professionals from Police Scotland, the Scottish Ambulance Service and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, students were given an initial supervised driver experience of driving brand new cars supplied by a local car dealership.

Following this expert tuition they received advice and insight into the benefits of careful driving as well as the dreadful consequences of careless and dangerous driving.

A very hard-hitting scenario was experienced using Virtual Reality headsets which reinforced the awful impact that careless driving has on individuals and communities.

All partners commented specifically on the excellent manners and positive attitude of all the Hawick students who were a credit to the school.
