S3-5 Parent Communication

Course Choice Parents’ Evening, Thursday 3rd March 2016
6.00-8.00pm within Hawick High School

TIMETABLE HERE: S3 Parents are invited to attend an early session at 5.45pm in the Lecture Hall

I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to a Parents’ Evening to support the Course Choice process on Thursday 3rd March within Hawick High School.

This Parents’ Evening is particularly important for parents of current S3 pupils moving into S4, but is also very relevant for parents of current S4 and S5 students who will be thinking through their choices for next session.

Parents of S3 pupils will be aware that they are entering the Senior Phase of Curriculum for Excellence, where they will choose six subjects to study for National Qualifications. To help explain the process further there will be an additional session at 5.45pm in the Lecture Hall.

There will also be an opportunity to discuss further education options with representatives from other agencies including Borders College, Skills Development Scotland (Careers Advice) and Lothian Equal Access Programme for Schools (University Advice).

Teaching staff will be delivering presentations throughout the evening about their subjects including the various levels being offered and parents will be invited to attend these sessions on a rotational basis.

Prior to the Information Evening, all S3-5 pupils will receive a Course Choice form and information booklet.

In addition to this personal support, Pastoral Staff and the Senior Leadership Team will be available on the Information Evening until 8.30pm. If you wish to make an appointment for an individual discussion during this time your child can do so via their Pastoral Teacher.

We realise that choosing subjects for the Senior School in an important transition point in a pupil’s school career and we hope that you are able to attend this event to support your son/daughter.

If you have any queries about the evening, or if you cannot make this date but would still like additional support, please do not hesitate to contact your son/daughter’s Pastoral Teacher.
