Opportunities for S5 Pupils

The Sutton Trust US Programme is a great opportunity for senior students to experience a taste of what Higher Education in the USA could be like, and then get support for taking things further.

The Sutton Trust U.S. Program is now open for applications for summer 2016.

The Sutton Trust U.S. Program provides high-achieving, state school students a taste of life at a top-tier American university. The Program is aimed particularly at students from low or middle income families who would be the first generation in their family to go to university. The initiative is centred on a one-week summer school at a leading American university, with introductory events and application support in the UK before and after. Previous host campuses have included Harvard, Yale, and MIT.

The Sutton Trust is looking for S5 students who earned six or more As or Bs in their S4 qualifications. If you know a student who fits the criteria for this program, please encourage them to visit the Sutton Trust’s website at http://us.suttontrust.com/ and apply. The deadline for student applications is Wednesday, January 20, 2016. Please get your students to check the requirements on the Sutton Trust website closely to confirm they are eligible to apply.

In summer 2015, there were 15 students from Scotland on the Sutton Trust U.S. Program.

This exchange program can be life-changing, with several Scottish students going on to study at US universities. One such student is Lisa McMillan from Cambuslang who is now studying at Smith College in Massachusetts.
