Ian Rutherford was born in the Haig Maternity Hospital in Hawick on the 16th of February 1955. Ian went to Hawick High School from 1967 to 1971. He enjoyed Art and Geography and his favorite teachers were Mr Lancaster and Mr Franklin. He was first in his class 1H in first year. His ambition at school was to be good at sport and his interests were sports, wildlife and fishing. He now works as a photojournalist covering all types of events, sports, news and features across a wide spectrum of subjects. He never intended to be a photographer until he was in his 20’s and for it to become his career he feels that he has been very lucky to end up doing a great job. He has a saying “Sometimes it pays to follow your gut”.
