George Charters

George Charters was born in 1953. He attended Hawick High School from 1966-1971.  He played rugby for South Schools,  the Wanderers whom he captained, the Trades and Scottish Universities.  He  achieved First Class Honours in Chemical and Process Engineering  from Heriot Watt University and won the Watt Medal when he graduated in 1975. He worked very high up for Mars for along time which took him to Australia at one point  in his career. He also worked as Buying and Marketing Director for Boots, and Buying and Marketing Director for Safeway and as Chief Executive for Welcome Break the motorway service company. He retired in 2011.
